Working on CRM or MS Word ?!?!

Sometime now that I have worked on MS or Salesforce.com CRM.

Me got caught in Requirements Analysis of 2 Projects - 1 in MS CRM and 1 in Salesforce.com CRM.

Sounds Good and Challenging, yet Tough too !!!

However, am almost through with Specifications and Design for Salesforce.com Project. The best (or worst!) part is we have done the analysis and estimated time and resources, without even knowing fully about Salesforce.com. Lets hope Salesforce.com is an Unknown "Angel".

One awesome learning during this process is Professional Documentation. Learnt quite a few wonders of MS Word :-) Man I must say it is AMAZING !!! :-)

Especially the Word Styles which we use in MS Word comes real handy in terms of Uniform Formatting of the document. And there have been hell a lot of things like "Table of Contents", Change Tracker, Comments etc., which I had used for the first time and are really brilliant and it clearly shows the amount of thought and analysis gone into the making of MS Word!

Good Job Guys - Whoever has been part of MS Word Application Team !!!

That is all for now.. Shall catch you with CRM info from next week, cos that is when my CRM projects get kicked off and am sure we are gonna run into lots of issues and confusions and ofcourse GOOD SOLUTIONS :-)

Salesforce.com - R&D !!!

R&D is in progress w.r.t Salesforce.com.

None of us in the team are trained in Salesforce.com. However, we are gonna start off with our live project in 10 days. So we are learning using the Trial Edition of Salesforce.com. When we started a month back, we were nowhere. However, we are way far from day 1 and progressed very well, I must say. My Team is putting real good effort in digging out the unknown monsters of Salesforce.com.

Frankly when we started, we were clueless as to where to begin. So we took up the Project we had done in MS CRM 4.0 and trying or hands on in getting the same project up and running in Salesforce.com. Seemed to be a good idea and working well.

Now we are breaking our heads on 1 of the unknown monsters of Salesforce.com. We want an entity to be embedded into another entity, similar to how we embed an entity into another entity using Iframe in MS CRM 4.0. Its been a week now since we are trying to crack the same.

If any of you guys have an idea of it, please post a comment on this page and be sure of A Million Thanks in my next post :-)

CRM Implementation

Ever wondered why most of the CRM implementations lose track in due course? Well... Most of us would have gone through similar situations at various points of implementation. To an extent, I could jot down few points to be noted as part of the implementation process.

  • Be Clear of the Purpose of CRM in the Organization. This is the MOST IMPORTANT of all which would ensure End User/Senior Management Commitment for the implementation.
  • Communicate the same to All Levels of the Organization.
  • Involve the End Users of CRM in the Selection Process of CRM Tool. This move would be very much appreciated by End Users because of their feeling of importance. Also organization gets to know the actual requirements/issues/suggestions from End User point of view.
  • Ensure Senior Management Commitment for the Implementation. This is required to get the necessary support from Management, in due course of implementation and maintenance.

Oops… Gotta jet now… But rest assured… I would get you the rest in my next post. Ciao :-)

Debugging Javascript Code in MS CRM 4.0

Man... It was real tough not knowing how to debug Javascript Code in MS CRM 4.0. Every time I had to publish the forms and test with Alert Messages. It really got on my nerves and thought I better find a way out of this and that is when Stunnware helped me. I wanted to share the learning with you and here it is...

Open the Internet Explorer settings and select the Advanced tab. In the list of available options find the "Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer)" setting and make sure it's unchecked.

Open any script you want to debug and place the following just before the statement where you want to start your debugging session:
debugger

That's all, no semicolon, nothing else. To test it, run your form from the designer (preview mode) or publish it first. Once the script engine reaches the debugger statement, a list with all available debuggers is presented to you, including the Microsoft Script Debugger, Visual Studio 2003, Visual Studio 2005 or whatever is registered as a script debugger on your machine. You should try all debuggers to find the one you're most comfortable with and mark it as the default.

Like any other statement, you can simply comment out the debugger statement, so
//debugger
will actually turn off debugging.

All users that have not unchecked the "Disable debugging" setting in IE will not be prompted to start a debugger. However, you should make sure that you remove these statements before publishing them to a production environment. The easiest way to ensure it is to export all customizations and search the export xml file for "debugger".

For more information about the debugger statement, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/script56/html/1e9b3876-3d38-4fd8-8596-1bbfe2330aa9.asp.

Happy Debugging Javascript Code in MS CRM 4.0 !!!

Manage your Relationship with your Customer !!!

Most of us know CRM spells for "Customer Relationship Management". But how many of us are really aware of Managing Relationships with our Customers ?!?! Well.. Not to become defensive about it..

Before getting in to the CRM Tools/Packages/Softwares, thought of giving a gist of CRM as a practice.

CRM Tools work the way they are best called - "Tools". They just help you in managing your customers. But who really manages your customer, rather who really IS SUPPOSED TO MANAGE YOUR CUSTOMER ? YOU :-)
